December Charity of the Month

Stuff-A-Truck held by the SMCAA (Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency)

Donate to the SMCAA

The Annual "Stuff-a-Truck" FOODraiser is used to restock

the warehouse and pantry at Southwest Michigan Community

Action Agency.

Do a little something that will make a big difference.

Every fall, the community bands together to help feed hungry families in

Michigan's Great Southwest. In this economy, the need to raise more food

is greater than ever because the need for such necessities is greater than

ever. SMCAA provides necessary food and personal care items to thousands

of individuals; hundreds of families right here in Berrien, Cass and Van

Buren Counties.

Every year during Stuff-a-Truck, SMCAA, in partnership with 97.5 Y-Country,

collects non-perishables and personal care items at Roger's Foodland. Listen

as Y-Country broadcasts live each day of the drive at Roger's, and stop by to

show your support.

Donating is simple -- just drop off in-date, non-perishables and personal care

items at Roger's Foodland during the Stuff-a-Truck week. (It's easy to pick up

a few extra items while you shop for your own groceries!) There are also the

options to purchase pre-bagged groceries or to buy and donate a $10 Roger's

gift card to be used by SMCAA to purchase needed. Cash donations are always

welcome.

Some of the many things that SMCAA needs:

"Non-Perishable" Food Products (No "Out Of Date/Expired" Items Please!)

Canned Goods: veggies, tuna, fruit...

Boxed Food: pasta, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, coffee, juice...

Baking Products: flour, sugar, salt, vanilla, baking soda, baking powder, cake mix, cornmeal, cooking oil...

Personal Hygiene Products: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, lotion, laundry detergent, toothpaste, toothbrushes...

Baby Products: diapers, wipes, baby food, formula...

Paper Products: toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, aluminum foil...

Who We Have Contributed To So Far

Best Friends 4H Club

Best Friends 4H Club

Best Friends 4-H Club was formed in 1988 by Patti Dynes and her son, David, after an exhaustive -- and fruitless -- search for a dog training club that could accommodate a student with Down's Syndrome. Over the years, our role has expanded to encompass the therapy benefits of training and competing with a canine for our youths with life disabilities while also teaching the every day responsibility of dog ownership and competing with their canines for our 4-H'ers without life disabilities. Our 4-H'ers, nontraditional and traditional alike, benefit greatly from the canine lessons, socialization and competitions at the Berrien County Youth Fair -- and have a lot of fun doing it!

Berrien County Cancer Services

Berrien County Cancer Services

The Berrien County Cancer Service (BCCS) has had the honor of caring for Southwest Michigan's cancer patients since 1948. We are a unique skilled oncology nursing service that provides compassionate care for cancer patients and those with related illnesses in the comfort of their own home. We are able to do this at no cost because of the generosity of our community; we are "neighbors helping neighbors" in a time when local cancer patients need our special care.
